Mieko Ishikawa, born in Tokyo, Japan, in 1950 graduated from Musashino Art University. Initially she working as an illustrator. After that she has focused on botanical art for over 30 years, as well as training botanical artists.
Her main themes of botanical art are Japanese cherry blossoms as well as plants grown in rainforests in Borneo. For drawing plants of rainforest, she has visited Borneo twelve times.
Rainforests hold mysterious and fascinating plants like Rafflesia and Nepenthes and are filled with a tremendous amount of energy. She hopes her works project the amazing quality of rainforests and lead people to understand the magnificent rainforest and the current dangers to such a delicate environment from global warming.
She has had her own Botanical Art Studio in Tokyo since 2014 and has been collected widely in the Hunt, the RHS, Kew, the Highgrove Florilegium and numerous private collections.
