Etienne Demonte achieved a great deal for botanical art in Brazil during his lifetime as well as being a famous painter of birds. He was part of a large family of wildlife painters who were passionate about saving the unique environments of Brazil and triggering conservation through their artistic output and records. From the 1960s onwards, he had over 20 shows in Brazil and exhibited widely internationally in Greece, Spain, the UK, at the Smithsonian and the Hunt Institute. He featured with his sisters Rosalia and Yvonne in a National Geographic film for an 'Explorer' program, showing his research and painting in the Bahia region of San Francisco.
